Margaret L. McClure, EdD, RN, FAAN
Professor, NYU College of NursingMargaret L. McClure is a professor at New York University where she holds appointments in both the School of Medicine and the College of Nursing. For almost twenty years she was the chief nursing officer at NYU Medical Center, where she also served as the chief operating officer and hospital administrator.
A prolific writer and lecturer, Dr. McClure is internationally recognized as a nursing leader. Her best-known contribution to the literature is the study entitled, Magnet Hospitals: Attraction and Retention of Professional Nurses, which she co-authored under the auspices of the American Academy of Nursing. She recently completed a new volume, a compilation of all the work that has been done to date regarding this subject, the title of which is Magnet Hospitals Revisited.
A graduate of the Lankenau Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, Dr. McClure received her baccalaureate degree from Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and her master’s and doctoral degrees from Teachers College, Columbia University.
Dr. McClure is a member of Sigma Theta Tau and a past president of the American Academy of Nursing and the American Organization of Nurse Executives. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including an honorary doctor of humane letters degree from Seton Hall University and an honorary doctor of laws degree from Moravian College. She retired from the United States Army Reserves with the rank of Colonel.
