Who We Are

Philanthropy Advancing Scholarship, Leadership and Innovative Practice

In 2006, the Barbara and Donald Jonas Family Fund established the Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence, a groundbreaking program that deploys philanthropy to advance the nursing profession through grants and programs designed to:

  • Developing outstanding faculty
  • Advancing scholarship
  • Sparking innovative practice

The Jonas Center works closely with powerful partners in nursing practice and education, public health and philanthropy on innovative grant programs. The majority of our resources—nearly $15 million to date—goes towards our Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar Program, created in 2008 to support the educational development of nursing doctoral students, increasing the number of advanced practice nurses who can fill varied roles as primary care providers, nursing school faculty and health care leaders.  This initiative has expanded to fund nearly 600 doctoral nursing students at more than 115 of the nation’s leading academic institutions in all 50 states.
