Katherine Durham is a PhD student at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) School of Nursing. Her developing program of research is focused on the genetic components of cardiac electrophysiology disorders in the Veteran population. Katherine has seven years of experience in cardiovascular nursing at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois as an electrophysiology nurse practitioner and cardiac catheterization nurse. She serves on several hospital committees including the Institutional Review Board and the Moderate Sedation Committee. Katherine also serves as the nurse practitioner representative for the Federal Veterans Health Association Section of the American College of Cardiology. She received her MS at UIC with a primary care nurse practitioner concentration and her BSN at Marquette University. She recently completed a study examining vascular circulation patterns in patients before and after cardiac catheterization through the radial artery and plans to present and publish her findings this year. Katherine’s goal is to blend her clinical and research experience to identify future research questions with simultaneous translation of findings back to the growing veteran population.
