Prior to entering the medical field I had the honor of leading our men and women into and home from the battlefields of Iraq. After 5 years and two combat tours totaling over 27 months I returned home to begin a new career in Nursing. I completed an accelerated BSN at NYU in 2012 and began work at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center while attending Pace University as an MSN/FNP student. In 2014, after graduating from Pace University and attaining board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner, I began work as a primary care provider to Malignant Brain Tumor patients at the Weill Cornell Brain Tumor Center at New York Presbyterian Hospital. As the first Nurse Practitioner to work at the newly established Brain Tumor Center my duties and responsibilities encompassed all aspects of an outpatient practice. In addition to the standard clinical duties of an NP, I also established department protocols, oversaw administrative staff members, took on the role of research nurse and social worker, and developed informational and educational materials for patients while promoting the practice through speaking engagements with various nursing groups. The groundbreaking research taking place in the science of malignant brain tumors is astonishing in its own right, but my passion has always been in improving the healthcare systems that serve our Veterans. As a Doctor of Nursing candidate at Yale University my research will focus on evidence based interventions that will lead to an improved healthcare delivery system for our nation's Veterans.
