Jessica has a nursing background inclusive of leadership, patient care, staff development, and family advocacy in pediatrics, women’s health, and medical/surgical critical care.  She obtained her undergraduate nursing degree from the University of Southern Illinois-Edwardsville School of Nursing and holds a Master's Degree in Nursing Leadership from Webster University. Jessica participates in many regional stroke committees and is a Stroke Certified Registered Nurse through the American Association of Neurologic Nurses. Jessica currently serves as the Coordinator of the Stroke Program at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital in St. Louis. In this role, she is responsible for coordinating comprehensive neurologic care via a multidisciplinary team for all potential stroke patients, based on the most current evidence based literature. Jessica is currently enrolled in the DNP program at the University of Missouri in St. Louis with a program focus of Family Practice. Being selected as a Jonas Nursing Scholar is an honor and a privilege and  Jessica recognizes the tremendous sacrifices that our veterans’ have made to serve this country. Jessica’s scholarly project focuses on the implementation of a telehealth application called VA Connect into an outpatient Polytrauma Program in the St. Louis area. The patient population that she is focusing on includes Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom Veterans. The aim of her work is to improve healthcare alternatives for veterans, decrease “no show” appointments, and subsequently improve morbidity rates.
