Nancy Madsen is a doctoral nursing student at Loyola University Chicago. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and a Bachelor of Arts degree in scandinavian studies from the University of Minnesota. She is an ANCC board certified med/surg nurse with extensive clinical experience in both acute and critical medical/surgical nursing. For the last six years, she has been working in the field of informatics as a clinical documentation specialist. Ms. Madsen has been recognized by Loyola University Hospital with both a nursing excellence award and a MAGIS quarterly award. She served as the Vice President of Sigma Theta Tau Alpha Beta Chapter where she helped the chapter achieve the Chapter Key award. Ms. Madsen’s current doctoral research focuses on health system redesign and collaborative practice in an ambulatory clinic to determine the effect of this redesign on patients’ health outcomes, engagement and health care utilization. Her goal is to advance the knowledge of nursing through leveraging secondary data and big data to improve population health.
