Monica Roosa Ordway, MSN, PNP-BC, IBCLC
Yale University
Ms. Ordway graduated from Fairfield University with a BS in physics and then received her Master’s in Nursing from the Graduate Entry Program in Nursing at Yale University. She was a pediatric nurse practitioner and lactation consultant for ten years prior to enrolling in the Yale PhD program. Her dissertation work involves examining the intermediate effects of a parenting intervention program (Minding the Baby) on child behavior 1-3 years after the intervention. The intervention is a home-visitation program utilizing an interdisciplinary approach wherein a pediatric nurse practitioner and social worker provide weekly home visits to first time young mothers in New Haven, CT at high risk due to their socioeconomic status. The intervention aims to promote maternal reflective functioning (the capacity of the mother to envision the mental states of herself and her child). Ms. Ordway’s dissertation will examine the effects of the intervention on the children’s behavior. Specifically, she will focus on the relationship between maternal reflective functioning and child behaviors.
