Mary Christine (Christy) Jared, MS, RN, PMHNP-BC is a PhD student at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing. Her research interest is on the impact of holistic intervention programs on obesity outcomes in adult women with a history of childhood/adolescent trauma. Christy is a nurse leader and a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, and has been a registered nurse since 1991. She has a Bachelor’s of Science in nursing and a Bachelor’s of Arts in philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master’s degree in Nursing Administration, and a Post-Master’s Certificate in Advanced Practice Nursing from NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing. During her 25-year tenure as a health care professional, Christy has had the great honor of caring for patients and their families in multiple health care settings and in diverse nursing roles. She has worked as a labor and delivery nurse in both Texas and New York and as a policy analyst for a homeless organization in New York City. She has worked part-time as a legal nurse consultant, taught baccalaureate-level clinical nursing, and researched maternal-fetal medicine and breast cancer. As a nursing administrator, Christy was an integral member of the senior leadership team that led the successful implementation of a five-hospital system shared governance and primary care nursing initiative. In the role of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, she was employed by one of the first Health Homes in New York City and responsible for enrollment and referral of patients with multiple psychiatric and medical co-morbidities. She is currently the Clinical/Community Program Manager for the Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program HRSA grant at Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing. Throughout her career, Christy has been involved in local and international volunteer work and has presented at various professional venues on nursing quality and safety, professional practice, and education on age-sensitive care of older adults. Christy is a member of American Nurses Association, American Psychiatric Nurses Association, Gerontological Society of America, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, and Phi Beta Kappa Liberal Arts Honor Society.
