Ms. McCarthy received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the State University of New York at Binghamton, her Master of Arts in Cardiac Rehabilitation and Adult Fitness from Adelphi University, and her Master of Science from Pace University. She is interested in improving rates of physical activity in the cardiac population and during her research residency, she was able to conduct a secondary data analysis that focused on identifying the predictors of physical inactivity in men and women with type 2 diabetes. With the assistance of her advisor, Dr. Deborah Chyun, she submitted an abstract to the Eastern Nursing Research Society (ENRS) and presented her research in March 2009. She also submitted an abstract and presented a poster for the American Diabetes Annual Scientific Sessions in June 2010. In 2009, Ms. McCarthy became a reviewer for the Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing and submitted a manuscript entitled, “Barriers to Cardiac Rehabilitation in Women with Cardiovascular Disease”.
