Juanita Garner is an Assistant Professor of nursing at Southern University and A&M College, College of Nursing and Allied Health in Baton Rouge, Louisiana since 2012 and is currently a doctoral nursing student. Garner's research interest includes promoting effective coping strategies and healthier lifestyle choices in baccalaureate nursing students that will enhance their ability to manage stress as they embark upon their professional careers in nursing. Her involvment with baccalaureate nursing students has gained recognition on the local, state, and national level. For the past three years, Garner has served as faculty advisor to the Student Nurses Association where she mentors nursing students in leadership, scholarship, and community service. Garner has been instrumental in raising breast cancer awareness on the University's campus through both student and community involvement. Consistently striving to improve student learning outcomes, she has served on the curriculum committee and currently serves on the admissions and progression committee. In addition to her recent recognition as an NLN Jonas Scholar, Garner continues to foster scholarship and lifelong learning. She also holds memberships in numerous professional organizations including Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, the American Nurses Association, the Louisiana League for Nursing, Louisiana State Nurses Association, and the Baton Rouge District Nurses Association.
