DNP Student

I am currently enrolled in the DNP program at Vanderbilt University. I am an Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and plan to complete a post master certificate and seek certification as a life span PMHNP. I teach full-time in a baccalaureate program at Lamar University where my primary class is Care of the Mental Health Client. In addition, I have an active faculty practice at the emergency department of a local hospital. My interest in addiction medicine was fostered by a contract RN position at a treatment center. The center lacked an advance practice nurse or any other type of provider. The lack of what appears to be a substantial role piqued my interest and as I result I have sought out continuing education in the associated neurobiology and pharmacology. My research interests are psychiatric mental health and education. I am currently working on a project concerning the use of group psychotherapy as an introduction to mental health nursing. Prior to becoming a full time nursing educator, I worked as a house supervisor in mental health as well as being the clinical nurse educator for multiple years. I am a two time Daisy Educator Award nominee and was nominated as employee of the year while employed at the local hospital.
