She chose to earn her PhD to further her goal of providing safe, efficient, and effective nursing care to patients through advocating for policy change. Jennifer’s research focuses on reducing healthcare spending through chronic disease management and prevention. The aim of her proposed research study is to evaluate the relationship between the nurse and patients in improving patient outcomes and reducing healthcare spending on chronic conditions. Jennifer designed and implemented Shared Medical Appointments for chronic disease management, increasing patient visits for disease prevention from 1 patient per hour to 10 patients in 2 hours thus improving health outcomes, decreasing costs, and improving productivity for her clinic at the VA. Jennifer was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau in 2009 and Pi Alpha Alpha in 2014. She is a proud member of the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing and the National Association of Professional Women.
