After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Entomology from Texas A&M University in College Station, Eduardo Chavez joined the Peace Corps. While serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Paraguay, he developed an interest in health care and nursing. Mr. Chavez was disturbed by the lack of health care services and the need for basic health education in his Paraguayan community. Upon returning to the United States, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas (UT) at Austin School of Nursing and developed clinical experience in medical-surgical and community health nursing. Currently, Mr. Chavez is an Emergency Department nurse at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center in Austin, Texas. In addition to his participation in the BSN to PhD nursing program at UT Austin, he also chose to enroll in additional course work and will earn a Master of Science degree in Nursing Administration and Healthcare Systems Management. Mr. Chavez’s research focus is on leadership behaviors of front-line staff nurses. After completing his doctoral studies, he plans to develop a professional career in academia and focus on conducting scientific research and teaching.
