Cecille Marie Basilio’s personal and professional experiences have nurtured a profound commitment to serve the underserved minority population, and spurred an interest in graduate study to best serve this population. Cecille earned a BA in Economics from the University of the Philippines (Diliman). She went back to school, and obtained her MSN degree in 2014 from Charles R. Drew College of Medicine and Science (CDU). Cecille began her early-entry doctoral studies while completing her MSN as a scholar of the CDU-University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) PhD Bridge Program. Cecille is currently a 3rd year doctoral student at the UCLA School of Nursing (SON) with a specialty in gerontology, and a research   focus on the nutrition knowledge, attitudes and behaviors of spouses of men with prostate cancer. She worked most recently as a Research Nurse for a R01 prostate cancer study at the UCLA SON. Cecille is affiliated with the Gerontological Society of America, Western Institute of Nursing, Oncology Nursing Society and the Sigma Theta Tau International (Gamma-Tau Chapter) where she presented her research abstracts on Diabetes Self-Management of Older Latinos; Nursing-led Intervention of Latino men with Advanced Stage Prostate Cancer; and mHealth Intervention of Latino men with Advanced Stage Prostate Cancer at their annual research conferences. With her research, she aims to inform and guide the development of dietary lifestyle interventions that include wives of men with prostate cancer that have broad implications for the reduction of obesity, metabolic syndrome and associated diseases in underserved minority population.
