Sonia Brown Jonas III/Blaustein Scholar (2012-2014)Sonia Brown completed her Bachelor of Science degree at Hampton University, and her Masters of Science degree at the University of Maryland, Baltimore Maryland. She is currently the Nurse Practitioner for the Cardiac Catheterization Department at Prince Georges Hospital Center in Cheverly, Maryland. She is responsible for the clinical management of patients who undergo various cardiac procedures, and actively participates in the hospital’s Advance Practice Council. Ms. Brown is also active in her community, where she is a board member for the Saint John Community Development Corporation (SJCDC) and serves as the chairperson for the health and wellness committee. Her work with the SJCDC centers on health promotion, education and prevention of diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and HIV/AIDS. Ms. Brown is currently a first-year student in the UMSON Doctor of Nursing Practice Program. Her area of interest is Cardiovascular Health, focusing on heart failure patients’ transitioning from the hospital to the home safely and decreasing 30day readmission rates.
