Jonas III Veterans Healthcare Scholar Alumni - Patricia Harnois-ChurchPatricia A. Harnois-Church entered nursing after serving three years of active duty in the United States Navy. While in the U.S. Navy Ready Reserve, she completed her BSN from Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia. Ms. Harnois-Church went back on active duty to serve in the Navy Nurse Corps as a lieutenant until her retirement from active duty in 1994. She earned a master’s degree in health administration from the Medical University of South Carolina, and worked as Director of Nursing in a long-term care facility. With a desire to expand her knowledge base in nursing, Ms. Harnois-Church earned her MSN from Old Dominion University, and is now a PhD student at the University of New Mexico in the College of Nursing’s health policy concentration. During the past ten years, she has been on the faculty at nursing programs in Virginia and Tennessee, teaching associate degree, baccalaureate, RN to BSN, and graduate nursing students.

Ms. Harnois-Church has been an inspiration to her children, with Lance serving as a captain in the U.S. Army, and Ashley recently graduating from nursing school. Never forgetting the military which was an integral part of her life, Ms. Harnois-Church’s dissertation research will focus on women veterans’ healthcare needs and related public policies.
