Mark has been a critical care nurse for 17 years of clinical and organizational leadership experience in a wide variety of healthcare settings including large academic medical centers, community hospitals and multi-hospital systems. He is currently employed as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner at Washington University in Saint Louis, Department of Medicine, Division of Oncology/Transplant at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Mark earned his BSN from St. Petersburg College in Florida and a MSN from Saint Louis University. His professional work experience is diverse and includes roles as staff nurse, nurse educator, clinical director, chief flight nurse and advanced practice nurse. He currently serves as President of the Greater St. Louis Chapter of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). Mark has reviewed many chapters for publication in critical care and transport textbooks, published articles in nursing journals on the topics of critical care transport and has designed and developed competency based orientation programs for new flight crew members. Mark's love of critical care has been coupled with the specialty of Oncology working in an oncology ICU. Mark's DNP project will focus on care coordination and transitional care of veterans with new cancer diagnoses. The approach of care coordination is used for patients with special health care needs who require long-term health care. Care coordination can help veterans understand and make sense of the effects of cancer on their lives and lead to better quality of care and improved patient outcomes.
