Mari Griffioen

Mari GriffioenMari Griffioen is a student in the doctoral program at University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON) where her current research focus is in gender differences in symptom and disease presentations, as well as advancing doctoral education for nurses. She concurrently holds a position as research coordinator at the Institute of Vaccine Safety at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Throughout her nursing career in acute care, long-term care, outpatient, public health, and research settings, she has always aspired to improve the health of patients and populations.

Ms. Griffioen completed the Global Health Certificate from UMSON. She is a current member of Sigma Theta Tau International Pi chapter and Organization for the Study of Sex Differences. She has served as co-chair for Nurses for Global Health at the University of Maryland School of Nursing, and has held membership in APHA, the Maryland Professional Volunteer Corps, and the Maryland Rural Health Association. As part of her Masters degree program, Ms. Griffioen presented her community health project “How to integrate special needs populations into a local health department’s emergency preparedness plan” to the Maryland Health Department Directors of Nursing.
