Kelly Adams , MSN, RN, PCCN

Kelly AdamsKelly Adams is a doctoral student in the nursing PhD program at Michigan State University College of Nursing. She received a Bachelor in science of nursing degree from Calvin College and a Masters degree in nursing education from Michigan State University.

Ms. Adams has extensive clinical background in acute and critical medical-surgical nursing. She has worked as a staff nurse, charge nurse, and clinical nurse educator for Spectrum Health Systems in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Ms. Adams maintains her certification as a progressive care certified nurse through the American Association of Critical Care nurses. She is currently a nursing instructor at Michigan State University. Ms. Adams serves on the student advisory council at Michigan State University and both the Emerging Scholars Network and the Communications Committee of the Midwest Nursing Research Society. In addition, she serves as a volunteer basic life support instructor for the American Heart Association.

Ms. Adams has received funding support from the Spectrum Health Nursing Education Research Fund for her research that investigated the effects of emotional intelligence on quality of bedside care in nurses. She has presented findings from this research at local, regional, and international conferences. Her developing research program is aimed at better understanding how cognitive and emotional factors may directly impact self-care management and adherence behaviors of congestive heart failure patients.
