Jonas III Veterans Healthcare Scholar Alumni - Kathy IngelseKathy Ingelse is both a Family and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and completed her DNP at Oregon Health and Science University. She is currently an Assistant Professor at Northern Arizona University School of Nursing. She received her M.S. in Community Health Nursing and her FNP at Arizona State University. She was clinical faculty in a BSN program at Northern Arizona University and taught on campus and in courses delivered via Video-television to the Navajo and Hopi Reservations. She worked concurrently as faculty for the graduate FNP program. Dr. Ingelse had a faculty practice at Coconino County Health Department in a Teen Clinic and secured grant funding to maintain the clinic. She went back to school for a post-masters PMHNP at Gonzaga University. She started working for a Community Based Outpatient Veterans Administration clinic in 2006 as a primary care provider. Dr. Ingelse has since moved into the Mental Health Department of this VA clinic and has become increasingly interested in the health care needs of women veterans, particularly those who have been diagnosed with PTSD or have had Military Sexual Trauma. She and a colleague recently initiated and completed the first ever PTSD symptom management group for women veterans in Central Oregon.

Dr. Ingelse has always been interested in underserved populations, having worked with Indian Health Services in both Arizona and Oregon as a volunteer for both a Federally funded Community Health Center in Flagstaff and a Volunteers in Medicine Clinic in Bend, Oregon. She has worked at several County Health Departments both in School-Based Clinics and in Family Planning. Dr. Ingelse has and continues to precept both FNP and PMHNP Nurse Practitioner students.
