Johnson Memorial Award for Individual Innovation, Creativity, and Insight in Nursing. Her subsequent clinical work was at Oregon Health and Science University Hospital, working as a direct-care nurse on a cardiovascular progressive care unit. During her first year of the PhD program, she has presented original research on two separate topics in the domain of self-care and symptoms in adult patients with heart failure. Ms. Bidwell’s primary goal as a post-baccalaureate PhD student and future geriatric nurse scientist is to generate and disseminate research knowledge that is clinically significant and holistically meaningful to the physical and mental health and wellness of older adults with heart failure and their family caregivers. Her primary research interest is advanced heart failure in older adults, specifically in the areas of symptom management, quality of life, palliative care, end-of-life, and informal caregiving.
