Jonas III Veterans Healthcare Scholar Alumni - Helen CoronelHelen C. Coronel earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. She began her nursing career as neonatal nurse at Scott & White Memorial Hospital. Ms. Coronel earned a Master’s of Science in Nursing and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Vanderbilt University. In the last five years with DVBIC, Dr. Coronel has worked directly with service members at Fort Hood, TX, and Fort Carson, CO. Her position as a neuroscience clinician and subject matter expert with the Office of Clinical Initiatives at DVBIC also includes development of clinical practice guidelines, participation in the creation and education of concussion screening tools such as the Military Acute Concussion Evaluation (MACE), content development for DVBIC’s annual Traumatic Brain Injury Conference, frequent speaker for the Red Cross, Centers for Deployment Psychology and Walter Reed Army Institute of Research on mild traumatic brain injury/concussion in the military. Publications include: Combat-Related Traumatic Brain Injury and Its Implications to Military Healthcare, Psychiatric Clinics of North America, 2010 33(4): 783-796.
