Heather Gibson, PhD

Jonas Scholars Alumni GibsonHeather Gibson earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1995 from the Univerrsity at Buffalo, followed by her Master of Arts degree in Nursing in 2003 from New York University, and her PhD in Nursing from CUNY Graduate Center. She previously served as an Assistant Professor at Medgar Evers College in the Department of Nursing and as the Chair of the Department of Nursing AAS/PN at Medgar Evers College from 2006-2010. Previously, Dr. Gibson worked at New York Methodist Hospital, where she took on a number of roles including Project Assistant, Clinical Analyst, Bloodless Medicine and Surgery Coordinator, and Charge Nurse. Dr. Gibson's doctoral dissertation was entitled, "Parental Perceptions of Childhood Obesity in Afro-Caribbeans". Additionally, she is involved at the Graduate Center in a research group that studies childhood obesity. She recently travelled with this group to Cape Town, South Africa and London, England to further their studies. She is also interested in Nursing Informatics and Nursing Education. Dr. Gibson is currently an Associate Professor at York College.
