Jonas III Veterans Healthcare Scholar Alumni - Dusty FilliungDusty Filliung graduated with a BSN in nursing from the Loyola University of Chicago in 2003 and completed the MS/PhD program at University of Michigan School of Nursing. She completed her MS in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner track in 2005. Her doctoral dissertation work focused on factors that influence functional outcomes in older adults with peripheral vascular disease. The goal of this work is to identify potential areas of intervention that can improve functional outcomes in older adults with this disabling disease.

Dr. Filliung’s work experience includes clinical nursing practice in cardiology, vascular surgery, and ortho/trauma. Her advanced nursing practice includes experience working as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in Vascular Surgery and Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Filliung currently serves as a Captain in the United States Army Reserves, Army Nurse Corp. She deployed to Baghdad, Iraq in 2007-2008 with the 86th Combat Support Hospital in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Her experiences caring for traumatically injured patients while deployed influenced her decision to work as a Nurse Practitioner in Orthopedic Surgery at Detroit Medical Center since 2011.
