Donald and Barbara Jonas, founders of the Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence, receive New York University College of Nursing’s Humanitarian Award
NEW YORK, May 20, 2010 – Donald and Barbara Jonas, founders of the Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence, have received New York University (NYU) College of Nursing’s Humanitarian Award in recognition of their dedication to nursing and philanthropic efforts on behalf of New Yorkers. The biennial award was presented on May 10th at the College of Nursing’s Commencement ceremony, where Mr. Jonas was also made an honorary member of the class of 2010.

The Nursing Workforce Challenge: Public Policy for a Dynamic and Complex Market, a new report by the Urban Institute, supported by the Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence
A new report by the Urban Institute sheds light on the continuing nursing shortage, from the economy’s impact on the workforce to the educational pipeline, with recommendations on policies and interventions needed to respond to this critical element of the health care crisis. A key recommendation from the report – which arrives as policymakers and health care systems look to nurses to help improve quality of and access to care while holding down costs – is that nurses must be constructively involved in shaping the future of health care.
